Cambrian Medieval Celtic Studies Prize for young scholars
Warm congratulations to Michelle Bratchie on winning the CMCS Prize in 2025. Buy CMCS 90 (Winter 2025) to read her winning article, 'The Colourful Worlds of Aneirin's Gododdin'.
CMCS Publications invites applications for an Annual CMCS Prize of £300 for an original article (between 5,000 and 15,000 words) on any aspect of the Celtic-speaking countries in the Middle Ages.
For 2025 the closing date for submissions (by e-mail attachment to cmcspub@gmail.com) is 1 April 2026. Articles should not be available on the web in any form and must not be under consideration for any other journal or for any other prize involving publication. CMCS will have the right to print the winning article, subject to peer review. Submissions should be suitable for publication in CMCS in the same calendar year.
Applicants must be 33 or under on the closing date. Because circumstances are difficult to compare, no exceptions can be made for late starters, applicants who have had career breaks, applicants who have changed discipline, etc. These should note, however, that from 2022 CMCS has offered royalties of up to £100 to all article-authors, irrespective of age. While the quality of academic journals depends on their authors, most journal-publishers share no profits with their authors; Cambrian Medieval Celtic Studies hopes to reverse this trend.
